Anzac Biscuits

Hi bloggers,
Anzac day is coming up and we decided to make some Anzac biscuits.
We got the recipe and read about it, it was about women sending it to people in the war so they have enough energy during the war, the recipe was quite simple it was flour, oats, brown sugar, coconut, golden syrup, butter, water and baking soda. Once I finished mixing we shaped them out, it was a bit oily but it smelt great. Then we put them in the oven to bake for 15 minutes. After a while it smelt amazing and I knew it was ready because I could even smell it from my room. When it cooled down it  was ready to eat and I had it with milk and it was delicious!

Thanks bloggers, you can try this at home to, we enjoyed eating it and making it.
Cya later bloggers.

  1. These look yummy, Jaycee! You had fun in the kitchen, made a delicious treat to eat, and learnt some NZ history at the same time. Well done.

What are the dark bits in your biscuits? I can't work it out from your list of ingredients. My guess is chocolate chips or raisins. Were they a special extra you added? I bet there were different ingredients the soldiers' mums put in the biscuits they sent over, knowing that it would be something special their son liked, too.

ANZAC biscuits are one of the favourite things I used to bake when I lived overseas because they reminded me of home. I couldn't always find golden syrup, so sometimes I used honey instead (but it didn't taste quite the same as my mum's recipe). I wonder what sort of treat your blog readers would like to be sent if they were a long way from home?

    1. Hi Mrs McLellan, thanks for reading my blog. The dark things in the biscuits are raisins we just added them even though they weren't in the recipe.

  2. Wow Jaycee, these look delicious! Thank you for sharing your experience of making ANZAC biscuits with us, and for explaining how ANZAC biscuits came to be. Maybe you could add your actual recipe, with quantities of ingredients, and numbered steps, so that other people could try to make these at home.
Have a lovely weekend with the people in your bubble and we'll look forward to seeing you again on Monday!

  3. Hi Jaycee, yum! I love ANZAC cookies! The golden syrup and butter make them so tasty. ANZAC day will be different this year because people won't be gathering together. Do you know why we celebrate on that day?
What else have you been doing during lockdown. Perhaps you could put some posts up telling us about things you have enjoyed and about any learning you have been doing at the beginning of this new term.
Stay safe and well in your bubble and we will see you when we are all back at school again.

  6. Hi Jaycee,
I really like the descriptive words that you have used in your post, especially 'oily' and 'delicious'. It is great to see photos of you in action too. Reading this post, I then made a connection to your reading work where you suggested that baking ANZAC cookies could be a good way that we acknowledge ANZAC day even though we are in lockdown.
    Thanks for sharing.

  7. Hi Jaycee
What a great description you wrote in your post about ANZAC biscuits. Your photos also show the process of how you made them. Fantastic!
Did you know Ms Sands is the best teacher at Waikowhai at baking ANZAC biscuits? She bakes them every year and they are very yummy. She even decorates the top of them to make them look like a poppy.
I hope you manage to read some ANZAC stories online. I'm sure the teachers in Te Ana Ako have posted some links in your reading folders for you to read and listen to.
Keep safe and healthy in your bubble Jaycee.
