My favourite learning this week

Hi bloggers,

My favourite piece of learning this week is my reading from yesterday, I read a book called I spy.

The book is about two aliens called Stone and Pebble, who live on a planet with only rocks.
I liked the book because they found out about some objects like apples, leaves, apple tree and flowers, and they gave them fun names because they didn't know what the names actually was. Like green flat blurbs = leaves, pretty white plogs = flowers and shiny red glosh = apples. I thought is was a bit interesting, after I finished the book we had to say 5 fruits or veggies I would bring with me.

Here's what i'll bring:

I talked about it with my family at the dinner table and asked my mom and dad, I thought they had some good ideas: My mum said she would take coconut because you can drink from it and eat the white bit inside. She said she would call it brown bowling ball. My dad would take kiwifruit because it's his favourite he said he would call it small green oval nugget.

  1. Kia Ora Jaycee,
It was so great to see you use your inferencing skills to work out the clues from this story. I really like the way you used the colour and shapes of the fruit to create new names. I agree with your idea of taking blueberries, they are my favourite fruit. I think I'd call them blurples because they could be a mix of blue and purple. If you could also take 5 vegetables, what would you choose?
    Thanks for sharing.

  2. Talofa Jaycee,
I like the way you described the book, it sounds interesting. I also like the names you used for the fruits. They are very creative and you have great reasons for why you should take the fruit. Your Mum and Dad have great reasons too. It's great to hear that you are blogging, it's even better to hear that you are doing your schoolwork. I think this is a great, fun and enjoyable activity to do.

Well done Jaycee. I can see you put a lot of detail and information into this post. Have a wonderful weekend, blog you later!!!

  3. Hi Jaycee, what an intersting book. A story about aliens is perfect for an author to produce the ultimate imaginative writing. In 'I Spy', there would have been no fruit on the alien's planet as it's too rocky, so I wonder how they found out about fruit? Did they visit earth?
I wonder if the author wrote other books with aliens as the main characters? Perhaps you could find out.
I was interested in the fruit you chose because both watermelon and oranges are my absolute facourite fruit. I bought a watermelon during lockdown. It was delicious!
Keep up the awesome effort with your online distance learning and we will see you when school starts again.

  5. Kia Ora Jaycee, I love the fun aspect of this book. There are lots of opportunities for creative language here - I might suggest a game to Mr Riceman that we could do in our class meet of 'guess the food' from the unusual name someone gives. I like Mr Riceman's idea of 'blurples'. If I picked my favourite fruit it would be spotty, red squish - can you guess what it is?
Thanks for sharing your reading with us. I really like the fact that you were talking about it as a family while you ate dinner. When I was growing up, we always sat together and discussed our learning from the day, you've reminded me of a happy memory!
